The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development centre sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defence. The SEI's core purpose is to help others make measured improvements in their software engineering capabilities.

Focused in systems and software engineering, Integrated Product and Process Development, and supplier sourcing and allows an organisation to select process improvement strategies but provides pre-defined areas for each maturity level.

The CMMI is the American equivalent of the ISO 15504 (SPICE) and is mapped to the ISO 9001:2000. Provides organisations guidance on what to do to gain control of their processes.

The CMMI approach is becoming increasingly recognised as a measure of performance for software development and engineering companies across the world, specially in USA and Asian markets. Achieving a level 3 SCAMPI appraisal will enhance our Business Development capabilities.
