Description
Critical is currently developing a solution for EDP (Energias de Portugal, SA), one of the biggest companies in Portugal in the Energy sector, which would allow the company to improve its decision making process in real time, through an efficient use of resources. The outcome of this project will be a portal which was named: SKIPPER (System, Knowledge, Information, Plant, Performance, EnviRonment).

The extremely complex energy production systems and the big variety of technologies used in the last decade makes the standardization task harder, but SKIPPER will let EDP mix heterogeneous and scattered data in a unique platform based in open standards and in real time. This will in turn allow the company to have return on the investment already made in the current systems and have a competitive advantage, making it possible to excel its business.

SKIPPER will gather scattered data from the various systems implemented in EDP (e.g. SAP, FoxPro, SQL Server, OSI, Oracle, etc.) and transform and consolidate them in SKIPPER’s repository through ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) processes. This information will then be structured in a data warehouse which will hold a bunch of reports that will consequently be available in the corporate portal.
