SIT
Customer/Partner GEP (Planning and Study Cabinet of the Portuguese Public Works, Transportation and Housing Ministry)
Description SIT project’s objective is the development of a Transportation Information System (in Portuguese, SIT), aiming at solving the existing gaps concerning the access of information in the transportation domain, scattered throughout various entities.
The biggest innovation of this project is the building of a core set of functionalities which allow, rather easily to the user, “to build steadily” the database dynamically, based in the data arriving from several sources, maintaining its original source. SIT does not imply an additional workload for the primary data producers, whose information is already extremely requested by national and international entities. Hence, data unavailability after the system is developed is avoided, given that, in opposition to the typical system’s development, in this case inputs are not pre-formatted by request. Generically, the solution found assumes the critical core of the system to be able to generate data structures based in input files, in a easy and intuitive manner to the user. The database can be built “from scratch”, with the addition of new data files to the system.
