The Critical Quality Management System is organized in processes taking ISO 12207 "Software Life-cycle processes" as input and is continuously assessed with ISO15504 standard.

ISO 15504, also known as SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination), determines the capability levels of software development related processes. Critical conducts continuous internal process assessments in order to determine process capability levels of different projects and raise improvement opportunities. The present software process improvement plan at Critical Software targets a level 3 of capability (CMM-compliant) for a set of key processes.

Critical was one of the first European companies to host an assessment based on SPICE. The assessment took place in 2001 and was sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA) using the S4S model (Spice 4 Space). After this assessment, a one year cycle improvement programme was derived, culminating with a S4S re-assessment in May 2003 which confirmed the improvements in assessed processes. Several processes, mainly Engineering, reached level 3 of capability.

The company has ISO 15504 Certified Assessors by iNTACS - International ISO 15504 Assessor Certification Scheme.
