Critical Software develops information systems for IdealMed’s new hospital in Coimbra
22 May 2012
Critical Software was selected by IdealMed to develop the information systems for its new hospital unit in Coimbra, opening this month. The partnership with Critical Software aimed at developing IT solutions to optimise access and sharing of clinical information, and improve efficiency in clinical research.
The technological solution developed by Critical Software encompasses a clinical data repository, a virtual Electronic Health Record that allows exploring repository data and a clinical trials management system that will simplify and streamline clinical research in this new hospital.
In partnership with IdealMed, Critical Software has developed the new hospital’s operational support IT systems, which allow for the integration, sharing and use of information originated in the multiple information systems available. The developed system aggregates each patient’s data into a single repository and can structure them according to the needs of each professional group, providing a holistic view of the patient, and allowing for integrated management of the healthcare provided. This solution facilitates daily clinical practice, making it more efficient, with clear benefits for management and, consequently, for the quality of care delivered.
Within the scope of the partnership between Critical Software and the company Medicine One, IdealMed is now equipped with web-based platform, updated in real time, to manage patients’ electronic health records, developed for this particular unit and focused on its distinct areas of intervention: outpatient consultation, operating room, inpatient treatment and primary health care.
IdealMed will develop clinical research at this new medical unit, supported by the clinical trials management solution designed in close collaboration with Critical Software. Through the structuring and aggregation of patients’ information, IdealMed gains efficiency in patient recruitment, one of the most critical and limiting steps when setting up clinical trials. Immediate recruitment is now possible with this tool, by means of a rapid and simple search of patients who comply with the inclusion and exclusion criteria for each clinical trial’s protocol, thereby becoming a more attractive partner for the pharmaceutical industry.
IdealMed’s new hospital unit will offer 43 medical specialities and develop clinical research, summing a total investment of 35 million Euros and generating 500 new direct and indirect jobs.
