Critical Software is a Finalist in the European IT Excellence Awards
2 Feb 2010
Critical Software was one of the four finalists in the European IT Excellence Awards, showcasing the SKIPPER - System, Knowledge, Information, Plant, Performance, EnviRonment - project. SKIPPER is a solution based on open standard, in-line with EDP's corporate architecture, which allows for the leveraging of previous investments in corporate and proprietary systems. Data scattered over several different source systems (e.g. SAP, FoxPro, SQL Server, OSI, Oracle, etc.) is processed and consolidated in a repository through ETL processes. This information is structured through a management information model, which supports a set of reports (real time management and control), to be made available at a corporate portal.
The biggest benefits of such a solution are its ability to: Promote user control over the system, through the usage of a configurable environment; Increase the ability to detect, in real-time, malfunctions or non optimized operational conditions; Replace legacy systems with heavy maintenance requirements; Provide real-time management information from a single and validated source; Decrease the start-up time of the operational technology of a new power plant.
