Critical Software is one of the Portuguese companies involved in a consortium whose purpose is to develop and implement a full-scale solution for the Portuguese Electric Vehicle charging and support infrastructure (part of the Portuguese Mobility Program).

As a result of the Portuguese industry's mobilization efforts around the theme of electric mobility, and benefitting from the national government's institutional support, the 1st charging station of the Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure was unveiled.

Critical Software's active contribution to the solution dealt with:

  • Real-time management and control of the charging stations grid;
  • Secure data exchange between the infrastructure and the "Entidade Gestora", responsible for the management of the grid;
  • The ability to select different electricity providers at the charging station;
  • Remote monitoring of the charging process;
  • Visualization of the charging stations geo-location and the status of the grid;
  • Information management between the charging station and the electricity provider;

From charging points (slow and fast) and their smart interaction with the electric grid, to advanced communications, management and aggregated billing, the entire system has been developed with a focus on the citizen, allowing systematic integration of the economic, energy and environmental dimensions linked to each user's mobility.

This technological solution was based on a collaborative R&D effort and it was designed and developed with the foreseeable technological advancements in mind, seeking to permanently adapt and include market-based innovation, both from a technical and business perspective. In addition, the consortium has followed the developing trends in charging and communication standards while attempting to meet the expectations and needs demanded by different automotive manufacturers.
