Six Sigma

Six Sigma (6 σ) is an approach to business improvement that includes a philosophy, a set of metrics, an improvement framework, and a toolkit of analytical methods. Six Sigma uses the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) approach which is a structured problem-solving methodology that helps team defining a problem through implementing solutions linked to underlying causes, and establishing best practices to make sure the solutions stay in place.

The measure six sigma refers to process variation that translates into an error or defect rate of 1 per 1,000,000 lines of code (99.9997% of success probability).
Six Sigma gives the organization a snapshot of the company's current performance while CMMI process infrastructure offers a foundation for Six Sigma efforts and helps engineering processes relate to its business goals.
Together with CMMI, Six Sigma provides a strong basis for performance driven improvement.
