Smart Meter Integrated Test Environment

Energy is becoming smarter. Smart meter devices are now a common fixture in households and businesses, with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) intending to offer a smart meter to every household and small business in the UK by the end of June 2021.

But energy suppliers face a challenge. These meters must be able to communicate with others on their network, as well as adhere to the standard protocols and requirements of the UK’s energy industry.

Critical Software developed the Smart Meter Integrated Test Environment (SMITEn) to permit a dynamic yet simple testing and assurance infrastructure for smart meter devices. SMITEn incorporates an emulated communications hub and gateway connections; an integrated toolkit for GBCS, SMETS and DUIS updates; and physical, end-to-end and emulated testing capabilities. All of this comes in the form of an easy-to-use infrastructure provided by an independent supplier.
