HEALTHCARE

The healthcare industry requires comprehensive IT solutions to manage patient information that is often fragmented across multiple care sites and systems.

CRITICAL Software’s solutions provide reliable patient data aggregation which, when combined with the company’s data visualisation capabilities and predictive tools, supports insightful data analysis.

Technological advances in healthcare have resulted in increasing amounts of patient data. This data has the potential to be transformed into useful information to support more informed decisions, reducing process costs and increasing the quality of care. However, data is only useful if it can be accessed in real time, at the point of care. Current barriers to access include a lack of data integration, poor quality data and insufficient analytical tools. We are committed to solving these challenges with healthcare solutions designed to capture, store and transform clinical data into meaningful and insightful information.

Electronic Health Records

Modern healthcare calls for comprehensive IT solutions to manage patient information. Too often, patient data and information is spread across multiple systems and silos that do not communicate easily with one another, if at all.

From clinical trials through to general patient healthcare, large volumes of medical data are generated on a daily basis with near-real time processing requirements. Enabling full and timely use of this data can make a critical difference to patient outcomes, but this is only possible when the right IT tools are available. Without the right systems in place, medical practitioners have difficulty gathering all of the information they need. Professionals are then obliged to struggle with incomplete or unusable data, lacking both detail and a complete overview of historical patient information, which in turn negatively impacts patient care and operational efficiency.

CRITICAL Software’s integrated electronic health records solutions tackle the problems of reliable data aggregation in the healthcare sector, providing real-time data visualisations that support better decision making. We are able to deliver an intuitive, patient-centric portal and other related services, which allow relevant clinical data to be gathered from a wide range of information systems and made accessible through a single point-of-access.

The benefits of this are numerous. Patient care is improved through a system that takes all of the available data from multiple systems, organisations and healthcare providers and channels them into a single access point with a single 'language'. This allows healthcare professionals to conduct queries on patients’ information in a fast and comprehensive way, reducing errors resulting from misdiagnosis and removing unnecessary repeat medical examinations - all of which provides better patient outcomes and cost efficiencies.

As a secondary use, data can be used anonymously to better understand the real-time health status of whole populations, identifying health risks and improving patient outcomes at a macro-level. Customisable dashboards allow medical professionals to track a wide range of general health indicators.

Security, reliability and confidentiality are of huge importance in the health sector. Our solutions are built on openEHR standards, ensuring that patient information is never compromised and that access is provided only to those with the appropriate authorisation.

IoT-Related Services for Healthcare

The emergence of systems and products that together form the Internet of Things (IoT) is bringing about fundamental changes in numerous industries.

Connected medical devices and applications are already creating an Internet of Medical Things which is contributing to better health monitoring and preventive care. From improving patients’ experience through to connecting medical devices to physicians' smartphones, the IoT is transforming healthcare.

Wearable devices and mobile medical applications that allow patients to capture their own biometric data supplement patient treatment through remote monitoring and communication (IoT in Remote Health Monitoring). The efficiency of healthcare facilities is also being enhanced by improved tracking of medical devices, personnel and patients (IoT in Indoor Location Tracking).

Despite the obvious healthcare benefits of IoT there are still some obstacles preventing more widespread adoption. Perhaps the most obvious of these are the security-related vulnerabilities of private and sensitive health data, while some argue for the dangers of overloading physicians with too much data, thereby distracting them from their primary mission.

These challenges simply must be overcome, so that healthcare providers and their patients can reap the enormous benefits offered by this latest evolution of technology.

CRITICAL Software offers IoT-related services for critical healthcare applications, utilising its expertise in IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) and HL7 (Health Level Seven International) interoperability standards for electronic health information.

Safety Training for Healthcare

Developing software for medical devices is highly regulated, requiring manufacturers to understand risk management, controlled lifecycle management, validation and verification, configuration management and change control. The key, mandated software standard within the medical devices industry is IEC 62304. However, many of the standard’s requirements are not defined prescriptively, leaving many medical device manufacturers with the challenge of how to best interpret the standard.

CRITICAL Software is a leader in the development and testing of safety-critical software and systems, providing important safety management and training to leading organisations in the healthcare industry.

Software Development for Medical Devices: Achieving Best Practice Through IEC 62304

This training course will provide much needed clarification of IEC 62304’s requirements and presents a detailed examination of how they can be implemented by manufacturers looking to efficiently deliver safe, effective and secure medical devices whilst conforming to industry best practice. A step-by-step breakdown of IEC 62304 will be accompanied by clear guidance on what each section means in practice. The course is ideal for software developers, systems engineers and managers involved in the development of software for medical devices. The course is also suitable for QA and RA professionals who are new to the area of software development for medical devices. Find out more and register for the course.

Software Development for Mobile Apps: Achieving Best Practice Through IEC 62304

This training course focuses on the development of mobile medical devices and how to efficiently conform to standards requirements in order to fulfil the legal requirements needed to sell to the EU, the US and the rest of the world. Standards covered include IEC 62304 for software development, ISO 14971 for safety risk management and IEC 62366 for human factors and usability engineering.
