CRITICAL Software Signs Landmark Agreement for Ariane 6 Space Launch Vehicle

October 18, 2017

CRITICAL Software has signed a landmark agreement with Arianespace to help develop Europe’s next-generation launch vehicle, Ariane 6.

The modular launcher is a significant step forward for the European space industry and will provide the continent with competitive access to space for many years to come. CRITICAL Software will be part of an international consortium responsible for the development of the launcher’s telemetry software. The software aggregates and processes data so that it can be used by ground control to analyse important launch information – crucial to ensuring launch issues are monitored and corrected.

Ariane 6 is a milestone project for the space industry that builds on the unparalleled success and reliability of the Ariane rocket family. With the first flight scheduled for 2020, the launcher will increase the capacity to transport satellites into space, reducing lead times and halving launch service costs. This will open up new possibilities for the European Space Agency, as well as create unprecedented options for private space companies to exploit commercial opportunities.

The agreement is particularly impressive as the project is being developed by companies from a restricted list of countries. As an international company, CRITICAL Software was selected because of its long-standing contributions to the space sector, as well as its ability to deliver against the industry’s most demanding challenges.

Paulo Guedes, Business Development Director for CRITICAL Software, said: “This is a highly-significant agreement for both the future of European space exploration and for CRITICAL Software, as it marks our entry into the launcher segment of the space industry. Ariane 6 is a beacon project that will transform space exploration, and something that will remain operational for decades to come.”

Gonçalo Quadros, CEO of CRITICAL Software added: “This agreement is the result of the fantastic work that our engineering team have been contributing to the space sector. We are proud to be part of a prestigious group of international space experts supporting the launcher’s operation and development.”
